Happy New Year! I know I say this every year, but I can’t believe it’s already 2019! We have a lot of big things planned for this year – I’ll turn 30 (!), I’m taking my first trip to Hawaii with my mom and sister in the spring, and Dennis and I are talking about organizing a trip to Europe in the fall (send us recommendations). The last couple days we’ve been trying to look at our calendar for the year to get organized and set goals.
The majority of my goals and resolutions for 2019 revolve around Matter of Proportions. Since September I’ve been trying a “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” approach to posts and content. In 2019 I want to focus in on what content YOU (the reader) has enjoyed and wants to see more of. What have been your favorite posts? Least favorite? Send me a message: firstname.lastname@example.org and share what you want more of!
The last couple of months have been a huge learning curve. I knew starting a blog wasn’t going to be easy. It’s a lot of work. I’ve enjoyed (most) every minute of it and couldn’t do it without the amazing support and encouragement I’ve received from family, friends and complete strangers. Thank you – especially Dennis – for not telling me I’m completely insane for doing this.
My word for 2019: Mindfulness
My yoga instructor this morning asked us to pick one word to reflect upon during practice, I decided to choose Mindfulness. It’s a word that keeps popping up as I set goals for this New Year. While I realize that it’s often overused, I do feel like it neatly sums up a lot of my intentions for this year.
Mindful in my work life balance: I bring work home. A lot. My goal for 2019 is to be aware of what triggers me to bring work home, acknowledge it and then find ways to leave the office in the office.
Mindful use of Technology (and social media): Often I feel like technology (cough, my phone) is ever present in my life and hand. I find myself mindlessly scrolling through Instagram and forgetting why I even reached for my phone in the first place. My goal for 2019 is to recognize and acknowledge when I’m on my phone or browsing the internet and make a conscious choice to stop or complete the task.
Mindful Shopping: I want to be considerate in what I purchase (how many pairs of sparkly shoes does one person really need?) but also where my purchases are being made and coming from. We have access to so many amazing companies now that are embracing ethical production that I want to support and choose to purchase from. One of my 2019 goals is to be conscious of what I purchase and choose an ethical source whenever possible (even if it means spending more money).
Mindful Blogging: I mentioned earlier, my goal for the next couple months is to really focus Matter of Proportions and inspire readers with curated outfit ideas, architectural musings, and the occasional life hack!
We’ve been brainstorming some great content for 2019. We’re looking forward to sharing it with you soon. Cheers! Bring on 2019! - Rebecca
